Host is part of a series of tree bark figures that are meant to represent some of the individual characteristics shared by trees and humans. Host represents the common characteristic of both trees and humans acting as hosts to other living organisms, parasites, growths and diseases.  A person or tree may appear beautiful and perfectly healthy, but upon closer examination, evidence of a disease or parasite may be found.  The figure's skin is covered with lichens and growths, representing the idea that living organisms, often leaving marks/holes/scars, can either be detrimental to or can harmlessly coexist with the tree or person.
